Johannesburg, 25 April 2019. The parties that have reached agreement to settle the silicosis and TB class action in the gold mining industry are concerned to have learned that some potential beneficiaries are being asked for payment by certain individuals, including lawyers, to assist them in registering an interest in claiming from the settlement fund once it is established. It has come to our attention that this is particularly happening in the Eastern Cape.
The parties are:
There is no need for potential beneficiaries to pay for this assistance - it will be provided freely.
There are three simple ways to register:
1) Visit https://www.silicosissettlement.co.za/register ;
2) Call the call centre at 0801 000 240; or
3) Send a “please call me” to 072 557 8077 and we will call you back.
Anyone who still has difficulties can also contact any of the people whose names and contact details can be found below.
We are hoping that the settlement trust fund will be established around the end of 2019 when, we hope, all the necessary legal processes have been finalised.
When the fund is established, the trustees will know to contact everyone who has registered.
We call on radio stations and newspapers, particularly in the Eastern Cape, to share this information with their listeners and readers.
